Beats and things…

What we’re here for?

The rap game, this music biz, the cap city (Pretoria) industry like anywhere else in the world is very simple to define; you either go big or you go home. It used to be a kingdom where the strong reigned and the weak were voiceless… nowadays promoters got the biggest buzz and you run into the same people at every event.

That ain’t even the worst part, the Pretoria hip-hop scene is a lot like high school now, we have the jocks, the hotties, the cool crowd and the nerds.

Attention all nerds and the jocks:

Nerds (promoters)

Smart dudes, they pretty much run ish now but almost instantly let their (minute) power consume them, a few pointers Mr. promoter:

  • Market research:   Learn your target market in order to avoid poor attendance at events.
  • Facebook: Is NOT the only marketing tool you have
  • Pay: Performers for their services and DO NOT put names of                artist you know you haven’t booked on your posters.
  • Dates: Timing is key

Jocks (Performers aka Emcee’s)

People clearly appreciate the music you put out, let’s starting dropping full albums now.

  • Craft: yrics can always be IMPROVED
  • Respect: Others, yourselves and the art form… like it or not you are public figures
  • Media: Learn to utilize the media (cool crowd) as they have                     influence, do not show up for interviews late, drunk, high                         and/or unprepared, it’s not a good look.

Well we damn sure aint here for our Matric certificates, so the next time you at an event and its “flaccid” ask yourself and other people; “what are we all really gathered here for”??

Tumi and the Volume

Inspired by the shocking amounts of rape that occur in South Africa, tumi and the volume along with a whole lot of friends such as; Mos Def, Pro, Mo’lemi, Tuks and Zubz to name but a few, the mixtape explores the story of a women now 25 relating the story of how she was raped 10years earlier in her school and her basically urging us all to break the silence as far as women abuse more specifically rape is involved.

People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) is an entity which aims to create a safer society that does not tolerate any violence against women, and where women are power, self reliant, equal and respected. For more info visit

All in all the music is dope as you would expect nothing less, the topic is definitely thought provoking and if anything I would advise one to share the mix tape and talk about these thing as they affect us all.

Winter wonderland

They say; “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, and well I say beauty is in the hands of the daring and extreme.

In winter most people tend to shy away from their favorite clothing item(s)… solution; DON’T!

For those who weren’t blessed with long, sleek-thighs like super-models cold weather provides a perfect opportunity to wear miniskirts or short dresses without exposing our legs. From tunics, shirt dresses to ruffle skirts, the possibilities of flattering winter fashion are endless!

Here are a few tips to wearing short dresses in winter and still keeping warm.

  1. Essential item number one, get yourself a pair or 2 of thick stockings or leggings.
  2. You need to theme winter into your fashion wonderland. Pick a theme that will tell a story about you and your clothes. This can be anything, good girl gone bad-meets vintage school girl chic.

Here is a super sexy outfit for you ladies, keeping the above theme in mind.

A short dress, layered with stockings or leggings, boots and a jacket and you have your-self an alluring and feminine look.

  • Black is the color for winter not only does it create the illusion of being slim and super sexy but it also creates ultra confidence and can be mixed with any bright and neutral colors.
  • Aaccessories to purchase this winter are trench coats, huge bags, hatsand a warm scarf or poncho.

Men, I haven’t forgotten about you guys. This winter while ladies go grey and black to create a sexy figure you need to go bright and play with color. Chino pants are the in thing for men along with cardigans and bright shirts this being blue, purple and lime. Fellas can we hide those super bright skinny jeans and trade them in for chino and corduroy pants this season?

Another helpful purchase is a trench coat, warm under armor shirts, scarfs and warm suede shoes. Don’t wear bulky sweaters because they take the attention of your great physique and make you look like you’re wearing borrowed robes.

Winter is a time for those with style to pull off outfits they wouldn’t wear in summer. It’s a season to be daring and adventurous.

On a final note, ladies and gents  moisturize to keep your skin glowing and have fun getting dressed this winter.

Fashion fades and evolves with time, but style is everlasting and unique, so go out there and be a style setter.

Kaslam word

#imjustsaying… Blame it

The great American poet Jamie Foxx has shared his sentiments with the world when he released musical sonnets such as “blame it” and “extravaganza” others such as Akon have followed suit with “sorry blame it on me” as people whenever things do not go our way we always point fingers at others, but why?
Katt Williams once asked; “how do I fcuk up your self-esteem, its esteem of yourself”? Rightfully so, how does one temper with what you are feeling? You cheat and get caught, you point fingers, you mess up a job interview and it’s somehow the interviewers fault, your phone gets lost and it’s not your problem.

Truth be told, most of us are masters of the blame game, diversions are counter-productive and definitely not sexy. How many times have you blamed it on someone else today alone?

Healthy human blankets

Winter is a cold and brutal season. When it suddenly and drastically knocks on our doors, the word winter became synonymous with seasonal relationships. Seasonal relationships are affairs that are better explained with the saying; “you scratch my back and I will scratch yours”. They become the norm of the cold winter days.
In the mist of all this fun and excitement, we forget about Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). We act invisible, forgetting that seasonal relationships come and go, but STDs stay with us forever. Take a look around and think of how many people the person lying next to you has slept with, and in all those pleasurable moments, have they protected themselves properly. When was the last time they had an HIV test done?
We know HIV very well as an incurable virus, but unfortunately the rest are a mystery.
There are two types of categories for STDs. Bacterial and viral STDs.
Bacterial STDs are the easiest to catch and also treatable, you can get rid of the STD by visiting a doctor and taking the necessary measures, as instructed by a doctor.

Never use over the counter medications for STDs.
Bacterial STDs – Sexually Transmitted Diseases – Vaginosis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Chancroid, Donovan sis, Enteritis and Proctocolitis, Neonatal Sepsis and Postpartum Fever, Postpartum Fever and Meningitis, Shigellosis, Trichomonal Virginities, Urethritis.

A viral virus STD stays in your system for a long period of time and sometimes like HIV/ AIDS, you get to live with it for the rest of your life. It can’t be cured. Viral Virus STDs – Herpes Simplex, Human Papilloma Virus, Cytomegalovirus, Human herpes virus type 8, Hepatitis A, B, and C, HIV/AIDS, Adult T-cell leukemia, Molluscum Contagiousum.

Suddenly the girl at the office, who is desperate for love and attention, becomes the center of attention and the not so handsome guy is the talk of the office.
Visit your doctor at any sign of symptoms of an STD as soon as possible.
Rather be a safe than sorry. Always condomise and know your body.
Appreciate, love and happiness.

Dare 2 sing your own song

Life is a miracle and like a song one has to write lyrics in order to have a hit.
While thinking about the above statement, I discovered that we all sing the same song, but never in the same way. You can’t reach your full potential if you follow the dreams or live in the shadows of others, simply put; you have to write your own book in life.
I have a friend and her purpose in my life was to teach me how to embrace my indifferences or should say, dare to be unique. She taught me the joys of following my own heart and desires, to embrace flaws as because they are what separate as from the whole world.
So with this 1st edition of the newly revamped kaslam website, I hope we are:
Unique in every way possible
Help you stand out from the rest
Start a new Kaslam culture and lifestyle
Inspire you with the fashion page
And make your soul pump with music

Don’t be afraid of being an individual, in fact dare to be different.

Health Tips

Flu loves us in winter and we in return tend to hate winter for bringing the big bad flu and fever with it, but however it doesn’t have to be that evil and bad.

The sun sets earlier, a chill fills the air and we spend less time outside being active and more time inside eating starchy and sugary foods. Our hibernating instinct doesn’t keep us healthy. Rather our immune system takes a hit, allowing winter colds and flu to attack us.

Body heat works wonders so have as many slumber parties as you can and your invite can say ‘ITS WINTER’.

Luckily these FIVE healthy tips should have you feeling all healthy and energized this winter but if all fails go see a doctor and don’t forget to vaccinate.

  1. Drink healthy fluids.

Sugary and caffeinated can suppress immune-system function, not to mention it can cause weight gain and dehydration. As clichéd as it may sound drinking 6-8glasses of water and herbal tea can keep your digestive system healthy, your weight down and your energy up.

  1. Get Some Z’ss.

Sleeping is one of the most effective ways to refuel after a stressful day. Make sure you sleep in a dark room to make sure your body properly secretes the hormone melatonin, which is believed to help repair the immune system.

  1. Wash your hands.

Keeping your hands clean is one of the most important steps you can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs.

  1. Stay Warm.

Cold temperatures can cause serious health problems. Stay dry and dress warmly in several layers of loose-fitting, tightly woven clothing. Most of your body heat is lost through your HEAD so wear a hat, preferably one that covers your ears.

  1. Exercise.

Who wants to be at the gym slaving away on the treadmill when all we want to do is snuggle up in our blankets and never leave our rooms, we all do. Exercise stimulates the immune system which in turn helps fight of flu and colds. So go get a partner and START jogging TODAY.
